After a several year hiatus, the men’s and women’s cross country programs were brought back to Fontbonne in 2006. Since that time, the cross country programs have been two of the more successful athletic programs at Fontbonne.
The men’s cross country program won the University’s first-ever St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Championship in 2008. The team repeated that championship in 2009. Since its return to Fontbonne, the men’s cross country program has claimed a couple of SLIAC Newcomer of the Year awards and more than 10 SLIAC all-conference honors. The program is traveling cross in the Midwest to compete in meets in locations that include Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi.
The women’s program has also rapidly improved. After finishing in fifth place in the SLIAC in 2006, the women’s team has taken second in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The program is still looking for its first-ever SLIAC Championship in women’s cross country. The women’s program has brought home more than 10 all-conference honors and a SLIAC Runner of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards. Just like the men, the women’s team is traveling to locations such as Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi for meets.
The cross country programs have access to some of the best training venues in the St. Louis area including the new state of the art track complex at Clayton High School and Forest Park. Fontbonne's Dunham Student Activity Center contains an indoor track, one of the few in the St. Louis area. Fontbonne also has a well-equipped and recently updated fitness center.
