Women's cross adds talent with experience for 2010 season

Aug. 24, 2010 - For the first time since the program was revived four years ago, the Fontbonne University women’s cross country program will look for leadership from a solid group of juniors and seniors.
Griffin senior Rachel Hanson, a three-time St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) First Team All-Conference selection, will attempt to lead Fontbonne to the school’s first-ever conference championship. Fontbonne has finished in second place in the SLIAC in each of the past two years.
Giving Hanson support will be fellow senior Trish Morris. Morris hopes to regain the form that made her an All-Conference selection as a sophomore, before injuries derailed her junior season. Steady junior Kaitlin Titsworth looks for another All-Conference level season, an honor she won both her freshman and sophomore years. Junior Anne Marx had a solid sophomore year after transferring from Dubuque University. A solid group of returning sophomores will give the squad depth. Erica Garcia was a First Team All-Conference selection last fall and Kelia Hamilton earned Second Team honors as a freshman. Anita Kren, Katie Scott and Allie Coleman all return after promising freshman seasons.
This group of experience returners will be joined by arguably the strongest recruiting class in school history. Jessica Brock (Polytechnical HS, Long Beach, CA) will be expected to have an instant impact on the local running scene. Brock comes from a very strong high school program where she was a four-year varsity mainstay. Marielle Counts (Lutheran South HS, Arnold, MO) was a multiple year state qualifier in high school, and could contribute immediately. Alyssa Toner (Trinity HS, Hazelwood, MO) and Marcey Meyer (Bishop DuBourg HS, St. Louis, MO) will round out the women's team. Meyer was a state qualifier in high school and Toner, who ran some impressive times in the middle distance track events as prep athlete, will be taking up cross country for the first time.
The women’s cross country team opens their season on September 4th at the Forest Park Early Bird Meet.
