The men’s basketball program at Fontbonne was established for the 1988-89 season. The Griffins first year of competition in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) was during the 1990-91 year.
Since joining the SLIAC, the men’s basketball program at Fontbonne has won more conference games than any other school. The Griffins have won three SLIAC Championships, five SLIAC Tournament Championships and made four appearances in the NCAA Div. III National Tournament.
The men’s basketball program holds the SLIAC record for most Tournament Championships and most tournament wins. In its 20 years competing in the SLIAC, Fontbonne has posted just four losing records. In its entire 22-year history as a basketball program, Fontbonne has posted 15 winning seasons.
In addition to their success on the court, Fontbonne has also raised more than $80,000 for “Coaches vs. Cancer” and more than $8,000 for St. Louis Children’s Hospital in recent years. The team has recently traveled to California, Hawaii, Florida and Chicago to compete.
The men's basketball program practices and plays at the Dunham Student Activity Center (DSAC), one of the nicest NCAA Division III facilities in the Midwest. The gymnasium holds more than 1,500 spectators and includes a snack bar that overlooks the gymnasium.
