The women’s basketball program at Fontbonne is one of the oldest and most successful program’s in the University’s athletic department.
The women’s basketball team has claimed seven St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) championships, three SLIAC Tournament Championships and made four appearances in the NCAA Div. III National Tournament. In 2001, the Lady Griffins advanced to the Sweet 16 round of the National Tournament.
In 20 years of the competing in the SLIAC, Fontbonne’s women’s basketball program has more conference wins than any the school. The Griffins have more than 75 % of their SLIAC games and have never had a losing season in the SLIAC. Fontbonne’s women’s basketball program holds the SLIAC record for most conference championships (7) and has more SLIAC Tournament wins (19) than any other SLIAC school.
In recent years, the women’s basketball program has travel to California, Hawaii, Florida, Michigan and Wisconsin to compete. The team plays in the Dunham Student Activity Center on Fontbonne’s campus which holds 1,500 guests.
