Big second half run propels Griffins to victory

Feb. 2, 2012 - The Fontbonne University women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack and a 26-4 run in the second half to overcome a hot shooting Greenville College last night 73-65. The victory was the Griffins' fifth in a row and improved their overall record to 12-8 and 9-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC).
Greenville dominated the first half shooting 58 percent from the floor while holding the Griffins to 39 percent. The Panthers lead by as many as 14 points (36-22) and took a 36-26 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Griffins trailed 38-28 but used a 26-4 run over the next 10 minutes to take a 52-42 lead with 9:25 to go in the game. After a poor shooting first half, Fontbonne shot 47 percent in the second half including 3-6 from behind the arc. The Griffins sealed the game at the free throw line making 16 of their 23 second half attempts.
Six Griffins scored at least eight points in the game with four players scoring double digits.
