Fontbonne began women's bowling as a club sport in 2006. The University changed it to a NCAA sanctioned sport in 2007. The team travels the country competing in tournaments with other NCAA colleges or unversities.

Fontbonne is one of just a handfull of NCAA Div. III schools that sponsor women's bowling. This forces the Griffins to compete in tournaments with alot of NCAA Div. I and II opponents. The Griffins however have held their own against some tough competition. In the past Fontbonne has knocked off NCAA Div. I opponents such as Lousiana Tech University, Arkansas Pine-Bluff University and Winston Salem University.
