Women's Soccer Coach Brian Hoener


In his 11 years as the men’s coach at Fontbonne, Coach Hoener has compiled a 111-74-28 record with a 71-30-17 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) record. He has led the Griffins to three SLIAC regular season championships (2003, 2004 and 2008) and two SLIAC Tournament championships (2004 and 2006). Coach Hoener has led the Griffins to three NCAA Tournament appearances (2003, 2004 and 2006). In 2003, 2004 and 2008, Coach Hoener was named the SLIAC Coach of the Year.

Coach Hoener is a graduate of Fontbonne University and played two seasons with the Griffins. He attended Lewis & Clark Community College prior to transferring to Fontbonne. He graduated and played high school soccer at McCluer North High School. Coach Hoener also serves as Fontbonne’s Sports Information Director and Wellness Director.

Mike Poropat - Associate Head Men's and Women's Soccer Coach-

Michael Poropat was promoted to the role of Associate Head Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach at Fontbonne University in March 2011. Coach Poropat had served as the assistant men’s soccer coach at Fontbonne since August 2005.

Coach Poropat brings a wealth of experience to the Fontbonne staff which includes high school, collegiate, club and professional coaching stints. He served as an assistant coach with the St. Louis Lions of the USL, and Forest Park Community College. Coach Poropat spent time as the head boy’s and girl’s soccer coach at Lutheran North High School. He also spent several years as a coach, tournament and camps director, and board member in the Gateway Strikers Soccer Club. As a player, Coach Poropat played at Lindenwood University and Missouri Baptist University. While at Missouri Baptist, twice he was an All-Conference selection; during his senior season he served as a team captain, and was also an All-Region performer. After college, he spent time overseas playing with IFK Malmo and Husie IF, in Sweden.

Coach Poropat earned his B.A. in Communications in December, 1997 from Missouri Baptist University. He earned a M.A. in Education from Fontbonne University in December, 2010. Further, Coach Poropat holds the USSF “B” Coaching License.

Meghan Rooney - Assistant Coach

Coach Rooney was hired as an assistant coach in the summer of 2011 at Fontbonne. Prior to coming to Fontbonne, Coach Rooney served as an assistant coach at Lewis & Clark Community College. Coach Rooney served on Lewis and Clark staff during their 2008 NJCAA National Championship. She was also on the staff the following year when Lewis and Clark finished in third place in the NJCAA.

Coach Rooney played her collegiate soccer at Lewis and Clark and McKendree University. During her time at Lewis and Clark, Coach Rooney was an All-American as well as receiving All-Region and All-Conference honors.

Coach Rooney earned her Bachelor of Science degree from McKendree in Elementary Education. She is currently studying to earn her master's at Fontbonne. Coach Rooney can be reached at rooneym@fontbonne.edu.
