Men's lacrosse picks up critical MLC victory
The Fontbonne University men’s lacrosse team finished a three-game in four days stretch by winning their final two games and improving to 2-1 in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference. After Fontbonne lost to Christopher-Newport 8-6 last Thursday, the Griffins bounced back to beat Hendrix College 11-5 on Friday and MLC foe Albion College 18-8 today.
The Griffins are now 5-7 overall and 2-1 in the MLC. Fontbonne has won three of their last four games.
Against Hendrix, Fontbonne squandered an early 3-0 lead and went into halftime tied 4-4. Fontbonne however outscored Hendrix 4-0 in the third quarter and 7-1 in the second half to ease to the 11-5 victory. Fontbonne freshman Peter Travis led Fontbonne with three goals and three assists for six points while senior Brooks McGee had three goals and two assists for five points. Fontbonne senior goalie Austen Doster recorded seven saves to pick up his first victory of the season.
Travis and McGee stayed hot against Albion as the two combined for 15 points. Travis had four goals and four assists while McGee recorded three goals and four assists. Fontbonne senior Jack Diemert had five goals and an assist. Eight Griffins scored in all including the first collegiate goals for Beau Gambill and Connor Saucier.
Fontbonne freshman Chad Meurer recorded the win in the cage for the Griffins. Doster came in relief for Meurer and recorded six saves while senior Jake Hirschfeld played the finale 15 minutes recording one save.
Fontbonne will return to action next Saturday when they host MLC rival Adrian College.
