Men's volleyball earns first victory of NCAA Div. III opponents

The Fontbonne University men’s volleyball team earned their first victory over an NCAA Div. III opponent in program history this weekend when they beat Mount St. Joseph on Friday. The Griffins beat Mount St. Joe 30-18, 29-31, 30-22 and 30-16.
Fontbonne was led by sophomore Michael Visitine who recorded 16 kills, a .340 hitting percentage and four blocks. Freshman Braxton Payne and sophmore Scott Ginger added 13 and 12 kills respectively. Ginger also added a team-high 17 digs. Senior Jake Buerke got the offensive going by recording 43 assists.
On Saturday, Fontbonne couldn’t keep the momentum as they fell to the Milwaukee School of Engineering (21-30, 18-30 and 17-30) and lost to Carthage College (20-30, 15-30 and 6-30). The Griffins are now 1-2 on the season.
In Saturday’s games, Visitine again led the way with a team-high 10 kills in the match against MSOE. Visitine and Payne each recorded five kills in the match with Carthage College.
Fontbonne returns to action Tuesday night when they play Missouri Baptist University at 7:00 pm.
