Women’s lacrosse splits final games of West Coast trip

The Fontbonne University women’s lacrosse team split the last two games of their West Coast trip this weekend beating Whittier College 9-8 on March 18th but losing to Pacific University 9-7 on March 20th. The Griffins are now 5-3 on the season.

Against Whittier, Fontbonne junior Emily Spalding scored two goals in the final three minutes to give the Griffins a dramatic come from behind victory. Spalding scored the game-winning goal with 13 seconds to go in the game. Spalding finished the game with four goals and an assist.

The Griffins, who outshot Whittier 35-20, got three goals from sophomore Mary Alice Pierce and two goals from senior Katie Radeackar. Fontbonne senior Danielle Donze had three assists and a team-high five ground balls. Griffins junior goalie Claire Kallio recorded 16 saves in the victory.

In the final game of the three-game West Coast trip, the Griffins fell to Pacific despite outshooting them 30-18. Fontbonne was led in this game by senior Katie Radeackar who recorded four goals.

Fontbonne will return to action on April 17th when they travel to Texas to University of Dallas.
